Replacing 3G Serial Modems Used for SMS Alarm Sending by AT Command

Scenario

A PLC, PC, Server, Data Logger or similar device, that sends serial AT Commands to a 3G modem or sending SMS alarms needs to be replaced – however standard 4G devices are difficult to apply because some of the commands are no longer supported and as such the application errors out and fails to work.

It would be ideal to have the original SMS developers adjust the AT commands to suit newer modem types, however in some circumstances that is not possible.

The solution below will enable these types of problems to be solved and site issues dealt with and resolved with remote support.

Solution

MTX GTW II S Gateway with Node Red (& Optionally Cervello VPN Access for Remote Support)

SMS Alarm

Details

Sometimes the commands sent from the PLC, PC etc are not responded to in the same way, by a newer modem, than the original 3G or even 2G device, and the problem response may cause the device to be unable to use a newer 4G modem to send SMS messages.

We can provide a 4G gateway which we can easily configure and modify to respond to the PLC, PC etc in the same way as the original 3G modem would have responded and parse the final intended SMS messages for sending  as appropriate.

The solution can be further enhanced by also allowing the possibility to parse the SMS messages and send Email or SNMP alarms etc.

Finally we can offer our Cervello VPN solution to allow for remote re-programming of the gateway or even secure remote access to the PLC or PC.

Our solution will provide a cost for the hardware and an allowance for customised configuration that should be sufficient to solve most difficult AT Modem replacement applications – please contact us for pricing and availability.
